The Ontario College of Teachers licenses, governs and regulates the province’s teaching profession in the public interest and to protect students. All publicly funded school teachers and administrators in Ontario must be licensed by us and be Ontario Certified Teachers (OCT).
The College regulates the teaching profession to protect students. Teachers in Ontario’s publicly funded elementary and secondary schools must be certified by the College, keep their membership in good standing, and follow the profession’s ethical and practice standards.

For 20 years, the College surveyed early-career Ontario Certified Teachers (OCTs) annually to learn more about the professional experiences of new teachers in Ontario. Transition to Teaching focused on employment trends for new OCTs, including understanding the types of jobs they found, how they settled into their chosen profession, and statistics on which positions were in demand.
In 2023, the College launched the Focus on Teaching survey, which is designed to gather and analyze data about the professional experiences and demographics of all OCTs who are in good standing with the College.
