Application Guide

To teach in a publicly funded school in Ontario, you must be licensed by the College and pay an annual fee.

Standard teaching certification requires that you have:

  • completed a three-year (minimum) post-secondary degree from an accredited institution
  • completed a four-semester teacher education program
  • proven proficiency in English or French
  • been certified to teach in the jurisdiction in which you were educated
  • satisfied the professional suitability requirement, and shown evidence of good character, including:
    • current Canadian criminal record report
    • online declaration
    • statement of professional standing.

Technological teaching certification requires that you have:

  • a secondary school diploma
  • an acceptable teacher education program
  • proof of competence in your field of specialization (for example, a trade certificate)
  • five years’ experience in your field.
