WHY BECOME AN ONTARIO CERTIFIED TEACHER?

You must be an Ontario Certified Teacher (OCT) in good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers to teach in Ontario's publicly funded schools.

Please apply only when you are ready. Your application will be automatically closed if:

• You begin the application and do not submit it within one year.
• You submit your application but do not provide all required documents within one year.

Before applying, be sure you are ready to submit the following required information:

• Proof of identity
• Proof of name change (if applicable)
• Criminal record check (vulnerable sector check not required)
• Proof of language proficiency test scores (if applicable)
• Teaching certificates from all jurisdictions where you have been authorized to teach (if applicable)
• All applicable fees

REGISTRATION GUIDES

• 

  If you are applying to teach academic subjects from Kindergarten to Grade 12: Requirements for Becoming a General Education Teacher in Ontario.

• 

  If you are a First Nation, Inuit or Métis applicant applying to teach Kindergarten to Grade 6 without a university degree: Requirements for Becoming a Primary-Junior Teacher if you are of Indigenous Ancestry .

• 

  If you are applying to teach technological subjects for Grades 9 to 12: Requirements for Becoming a Teacher of Technological Education in Ontario .

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER YOU SUBMIT YOUR APPLICATION

Within 10 business days of the College receiving your application, you will receive an email confirming that your application status page is ready. Please refer to that page for all documents that are required to complete your application. The College can only begin reviewing your application after we have received all your required documents and applicable fees.

Your application will be reviewed as a whole after we receive all your required documents and applicable fees. You will be notified by email if our review determines that:

1. Your documents and information are deemed to be to the satisfaction of the Registrar.

2. We require more information from you to continue with your application.
