Minutes of the Council Meeting of the Ontario College of Teachers held via Videoconference on April 29, 2025

1. Call to Order/Welcoming Chair Remarks
The Chair, Maria Vasanelli, called the meeting to order at 1:00 p.m. She welcomed everyone present and members of the public joining online. The Chair also shared a reflection on Earth Day and the relationship between people and the Earth.
2. Approval of the Agenda
It was moved by Valerie Fontenelle, seconded by Imran Syed, and
CARRIED,
That the Agenda for the April 29, 2025 Council meeting be approved.
Preparation time of one half-day was confirmed.
3. Conflict of Interest
No conflicts were declared.
4. Council Business and Governance
4.1 Selection and Nominating Subcommittee Report
Tammy Webster, Chair, presented the report of the Selection and Nominating Subcommittee. The Chair noted that the Selection and Nominating Subcommittee met in regard to two appointments, one for the OCT vacancy on Council and another for the Accreditation Committee roster. Tammy Webster noted that the Selection and Nominating Subcommittee focused on selecting an individual for Council with diverse experiences and backgrounds to ensure that Council includes varying perspectives from across the Province.
It was moved by Natacha Akineza, seconded by Valerie Fontenelle, and
CARRIED,
That Council appoint Charles Kouassi, OCT to a Council position for a 2-year term commencing April 29, 2025, in accordance with the provisions of the Ontario College of Teachers Act, 1996 and regulations made thereunder, as applicable.
It was moved by Valerie Fontenelle, seconded by Joseph Fiorino, and
CARRIED,
That Council appoint Dr. Diane Vetter, OCT to the Accreditation Committee Roster for a 2-year term of office commencing April 29, 2025, in accordance with the provisions of the Ontario College of Teachers Act, 1996 and regulations made thereunder, as applicable.
5. Future Meeting Date(s)
The Chair reminded Council of the upcoming Council meeting dates.

The meeting adjourned at 1:15 p.m.
