Council Meeting Summary
During the December 12 meeting, College Council:
- received a quarterly report from the Registrar & CEO.
- approved the Council Briefing and Development Plan for 2025.
- approved a request to the Minister of Education that regulations be amended to change the title of the Additional Qualification Teaching LGBTQ Students to Teaching 2SLGBTQIA+ Students.
- approved a request to the Minister of Education that a series of legislative amendments be made to the College’s Act and General Regulation to enhance public protection and improve operational efficiency.
- approved an amendment to the College Bylaws requiring Ontario Certified Teachers who were administratively suspended for failure to complete the Sexual Abuse Prevention Program to pay a reinstatement fee for the removal of the suspension.
- approved a request to the Minister of Education to reclassify the remuneration for Order in Council (OIC) appointees to Level 2, enabling increased per diem rates for Council, Committee, and Roster members.
- received a report from the Audit and Finance Subcommittee and passed a motion approving the 2025 College budget which includes a draw from the reserve up to $1,850,744. Council approved the 2025 budget with an unchanged annual membership fee of $200.
- received a quarterly financial report for the period ending September 30, 2024.
- received a report of the Selection and Nominating Subcommittee and approved the subcommittee’s recommendations for Council, committee and roster member appointments and reappointments, including the appointment of Maria Vasanelli, OCT as the new Chair of Council effective January 1, 2025.
- moved into an in camera session to discuss the annual performance review of the Registrar.
- received a report from the Adjudicative Body of Chairs.
- received a report from the Discipline Committee.
- received a report from the Fitness to Practise Committee.
