The Ontario College of Teachers licenses, governs and regulates the province’s teaching profession in the public interest and to protect students. All publicly funded school teachers and administrators in Ontario must be licensed by us and be Ontario Certified Teachers (OCT).
The College regulates the teaching profession to protect students. Teachers in Ontario’s publicly funded elementary and secondary schools must be certified by the College, keep their membership in good standing, and follow the profession’s ethical and practice standards.

This information will help you determine if your teaching experience is acceptable for entry into an Additional Qualification (AQ) course or to fulfill a practicum condition on your certificate. Please review the chart carefully and make note of the section that applies to your experience.

For entry into AQ courses:
To fulfil a practicum condition, experience must be verified by a principal or a supervisory officer.
Search for publicly funded schools in Ontario.
To fulfil a practicum condition, experience must be verified by a principal or a Supervisory Officer from Ontario’s Ministry of Education
Private / International schools must be authorized by Ontario’s Ministry of Education and appear on this list.
For entry into AQ courses, experience must be verified by the appropriate supervisory official in the jurisdiction. If the jurisdiction does not have a supervisory official role the experience should be verified by a principal.
