The Ontario College of Teachers licenses, governs and regulates the province’s teaching profession in the public interest and to protect students. All publicly funded school teachers and administrators in Ontario must be licensed by us and be Ontario Certified Teachers (OCT).
The College regulates the teaching profession to protect students. Teachers in Ontario’s publicly funded elementary and secondary schools must be certified by the College, keep their membership in good standing, and follow the profession’s ethical and practice standards.

A: Council members attend a minimum of four Council meetings a year. Members also serve on at least two of Council’s statutory, standing or special committees. Some committees require additional panel work from its members. Bilingual Council members may be asked to serve on additional committees or panels because of their French-language fluency. Chairs of Council committees usually have additional responsibilities. Council members require 25 to 60 days of leave per school year on average. On occasion, work may take place on weekends and during the summer.
A: The term of office for Council is three years.
A: If elected in April 2018, you will take office on July 1, 2018. You will be expected to attend a two-day orientation session on May 24–25, 2018. The inaugural meeting of the eighth Council will take place on Wednesday, July 4, 2018. Your term of office will continue until June 30, 2021.
